Fight that fade

So now you have decided to take the journey to the vivid hair of your dreams, I wanted to share my top 4 tricks for maintaining your hair in between your appointments.

1. Keep heat to a minimum, heat on the cuticle (the protective layer of the hair) causes it to open, which can lead to some of the colour ‘falling’ out of the hair shaft. Think of the cuticle like lizard scales, tightly compacted over the top of each other. If these are heated it causes them to lift which lets out some of the trapped colour molecules inside. So turn down the straighteners and keep showers to lukewarm.

2. Speaking of showers, keep washing your hair to a minimum. Each time you wash your hair you will get a degree of fade, at first, this will be very minimum, but it can increase if you haven’t had a top up in a while.

3. Keep your hair out of the sun, now I know we don’t get a lot of that in Manchester but when it is out, try to keep your hair covered as much as possible. Sunlight strips colour from your hair the same way it does anything else, you may notice this when you put things on the window sill at home, if it's there for a long time it will often become dull and faded. We don’t want that to happen to your hair so beware in the summer months.

4. Lastly, keep your hair topped up at home with our take home pots! After your vivid service with us we will give you a pot to take home that will have your bespoke colour mix in. This can be used instead of conditioner once your hair starts to fade. This will keep your hair looking fresh after each wash!

If you already have a vivid but it's looking a bit tired and faded you can book a top up colour service with us here https://book.getslick.com/#/salon/2298/ this is just a colour top up with no bleach so it’s great in between your big bleaching appointments!
